LA ISLA BONITA

Photographs of an island, by Sofía Gomez Fonzo

La Isla Bonita is more than a location: it is an invitation to inhabit with presence.

In a world where time seems to slip away, Sofia brings us back to the present moment: the island as refuge, as metaphor, as presence. It is not only about a place, but about what we feel in them, outside of past or future times — the memories we create, the encounters with ourselves, with others and the island.

The exhibition unfolds as an emotional landscape in constant motion, evoking the beauty of the ephemeral and the essential, where time is irrelevant, all that matters is being… here and now. On the island.

Sofia Gomez Fonzo (Chilean/Spanish) is a visual artist, photographer, and founder of Olas Gallery in Ibiza. She has been capturing images of the island since 2007.

Her work explores memory, time and the spaces where the intimate meets the collective. Her practice is nourished by exploration, observation and landscapes imbued with symbolism, where photography becomes a bridge between the personal experience and universal resonance.

In her work, the island emerges as both an imaginary and real territory — a place of return where nostalgia, inspiration and contemplation reside. Her art invites the viewer to pause, to create their own memories in dialogue with the island as a relationship.
